what it is | Code: |
Majestic-12 is working towards creation of a World Wide Web search engine based on concepts of distributing workload in a similar fashion achieved by successful projects such as SETI@home and distributed.net.
For full details its best to check our forum
|
http://www.majestic12.co.uk/forum/
there is a alpha version of the search engine, working (similar to google)
anyone can search and/or sumbit their url(s) even those not crunching
http://mj12search.kicks-ass.org:8888/
Why another search engine when already there is google ?
well, google is controled by commercial interests,
and thus, does not index all www space, this one Community will control.
For the ones wanting to help build a better distributed seach engine

If u run majestic-12 u can run boinc projects at same time
*just set priority of all MJ12node tasks to IDLE
(On MJ12node Profiles Add/Modify -> misc & Archiving )
All u boinc projects will run with a cpu efficiency of about 0.98 almost all times
If u want to play heavy games without MJ12 interfering
with u game performance , In addition to above -> IDLE priority
*Add an Profile to sonooze Archiving while the .exe of u game is running
eg: Quake III to sonooze Archiving when quake3.exe is running
*Archiving is the only task of mj12 that really uses CPU and do I/O
It runs one time at each 10000 urls - generally a 10 minutes run
Thanks

Yeah, my node did not crashed, but the PC was Infected by "netsearchsoft"
and no antivirus and no antispyware was able to "fix" the Infection,
thus was decided to format HD to reinstall Windows XP
By 3 days now we are trought hops to get winxp running again
with all that "security updates" and fixes from Microsoft.
*This infection "netsearchsoft" affected my boincstats too
In the meantime I am running MJ12 on my Dialup 46 kbps
That wont work well, Unless a service "Acclerated Dialup"
is used -> Then is possible to get over 128 kbit/s from dialup for www
Note that using accelerated Dialup the modem connects at same speed,
only the web pages are downloaded faster, cause they are compressed
at isp, before being sent over Telephone Lines
Here on Brazil, IG (superIG) offers a very cheap "Accelerated Dialup" *dialup accelerated by propel
and POP too, and the acceçerated dialup from POP is completely free *dialup accelerated by slip
I use SuperIG that costs something, cause to Dial IG
I dont get billed by Telephone Impulses
*(even with dialup conneted 24/7)
I heard that on US that netzero offers free dialup
and accelerated dialup too, by a small fee
An article about accelerated dialup
http://pcworld.about.com/magazine/2101p080id107372.htm
So, If someoe wants to run majestic-12 on Dialup, is possible
despite it requires broadband with unlimited traffic
On Accelerated Dialup, one should be able to crawl about 20000 urls/day
and get individual position about 80 on stats
ps: There is an service for accelerated broadband too "OnSpeed"
soon I will return to crawl using broadband

Hi! I am back on majestic-12 crawling
Now I am crawling on broadband from Linux only (virus imune)
where I can better control traffic and set type of service 2 (reduce cost)
for that crawling packtes
[edit] this "uptime project.net" is a joke
It stopped counting the uptime of my pc at 104 days, for no reason
* their support Sayd that I need to reboot, to it start counting again
Here is the uptime of my pc --> for now 126 days
http://uptime.netcraft.com/up/graph?host=roberto.dnsalias.com
That "netserachsoft" Infected PC is back on business too.
this time I Left it to run only boinc dimes and dlv ...
and to play some very heavy games too :tonqe:
[edit] I placed it on mj12 again, while I dont add more RAM to my Linux _________________ Click signature for team stats
